Self Defense

Go Ahead, Be RUDE!

Go ahead, be RUDE!

“WHAT?!”

I can hear you now.

“What do you mean, be rude? I’m not a rude person; in fact, I’m a pleasant, helpful person. Yet, you’re telling me to be rude! Why?”

Because being rude can possibly save your life and keep you safe from danger.

OK, let’s back up for a minute. I’m not saying be rude to everybody, but you have my permission to be rude to the bad guy. We are trained from childhood to be helpful, but from here on out, it’s OK to be a “bitch” and say “no” to anyone you suspect might want to hurt you.

I’m talking about listening to your intuition. It’s your “sixth sense”, that little voice inside that helps you perceive what is really going on. It knows something is true without knowing why or how you know it. It communicates differently to each of you. Sometimes it’s a knot in your stomach. Sometimes it’s an emotion that you can’t shake. I know you all know what I’m talking about, and probably have some stories about how your intuition helped you (or how you got into trouble when you didn’t listen to it!)

When you get that uncomfortable feeling about someone who is approaching you, then that’s the time to call upon your Inner Bitch (and you know we all have one!) to communicate loudly and clearly to stay away.

So, as far as I know, there is no Coalition of Parking Lot Helpers available to make friendly conversation or help your carry your bags. In the parking lot you are there to do one thing only, get to your car and safely drive off to your next destination. Next time someone tries to distract you from those objectives, give them a firm “No” and keep your distance. You might be called a name worse than “bitch,” but you know that your Inner Bitch is there to keep you out of danger.

So, go ahead, be RUDE! It might save your life.
